All students are encouraged to attend all general sessions of the Conference, the Reception, participate in the Talent Show and Pow Wow as well as participate in other Conference activities.

Student Essay Contest

Theme---"A Call to Action -Indian Education 2005"

What does this theme mean to you? Four students (9-12 grade) will be selected to present their essays at MIEA and receive a $100 scholarship. (See Essay entry information on this).

High School Student of the Year

Remember to nominate a high school student for the High School Student of the Year. Many students are doing well in school, participating in many activities as well as contributing to their communities and need to be recognized for their achievements.

MIEA Tribal GovernmentLeadership Academy

Wolf Tribal Council - Bear Tribal Council - Buffalo Tribal Council - Eagle Tribal Council

All students grade 6-12 will be organized into "Tribal Councils" for the conference and will conduct Tribal Council Business each day of the Conference. Speakers and activities will provide opportunities for students to gain experience in leadership. In addition, each student Tribal council will organize a 15 minute presentation to the General Assembly on Tuesday.

*Students-------- Get ready to run for Tribal Leadership---- Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer of each of the Councils. A parliamentarian for each tribal council will also be elected.

**MIEA Student Essay**

Theme of Paper: "A Call to Action ---Indian Education 2005" Four (4) students from grades 9-12 will be invited to give a presentation of 5-10 minutes during the conference on their perspective of the conference theme.

A $100.00 scholarship will be awarded to each of the four (4) students selected.

� Guidelines: Submit your presentation to MIEA postmarked by March 11, 2005.

� Selection Criteria: Relevance to the conference theme, organization of paper, originality of ideas, citations (if appropriate), appropriate writing mechanics, overall message your presentation sends to conference participants. Please type your paper, size 12 font, 1" margins, Times New Roman font.

� Students selected are encouraged to attend the conference and present their paper (MIEA will not be able to cover travel expenses)
