MIEA Awards

MIEA recognizes several categories of leaders in Indian Education. Winners are selected and honored at the annual MIEA conference, this year's conference is at the Garden Hilton, Missoula, MT.

  • High School Teacher of the Year:Theodora Weatherwax, Browning School District
  • Elementary Teacher of the Year:Nicole Cummins, Crow Agency Public School
  • School Support Staff of the Year:Sharon Bearcomesout, Lame Deer Schools Counselor
  • Special Recognition:DeeAnna Brady Leader, Great Falls Schools Title VII Director
  • Parents of the Year: William and Diane Burd, Browning
  • Elder of the Year (Co-Award Winner):Minerva Allen, Lodge Pole Senior Citizen Center
  • Elder of the Year (Co-Award Winner): Mabel Killsnight, Bilingual Instructor, Northern Cheyenne Tribe
  • College Student of the Year:Joe Caye, University of Montana
  • High School Student of the Year:Adam Baker, Poplar High School

  • Indian Educator of the Year:Norma Bixby, Northern Cheyenne Tribes of Montana
  • High School Teacher of the Year:Theodora Weatherwax, Browning School District
  • K - 8 Teacher of the Year:Warren Adams, Fort Belknap, Junior High School Social Studies and Physical Education Teacher
  • School Support Staff of the Year:Sharon Bearcomesout, Lame Deer Schools Counselor
